midyat

Midyat, one of Mardin's most unique districts, is not just a geographical point; it is a living museum of thousands of years of cultural heritage, stonework, and the ancient spirit of Mesopotamia. This photo collection documents Midyat's unique stone architecture, life in its narrow streets, the filigree art shaped by skilled hands, and the stone mansions bathed in golden light at sunset. Each frame reflects the spirit of this ancient city where Syriac, Kurdish, and Arab cultures intertwine. The light filtering through the stone walls in the early morning, the colors of hand-woven fabrics in the afternoon, the ringing of bells at the evening call to prayer, and the streets illuminated in the darkness of night... Midyat tells a different story at every moment.
1. STONE BUILDINGS AND ARCHITECTURE
Description: Midyat's most distinctive feature is its buildings constructed entirely of yellow stone and the skillfully crafted decorations on these stones. Each building is a monument to the knowledge and skills passed down from generation to generation by stonemasons. 2. SYRIAC MANSIONS
Description: The century-old Syriac mansions are the pinnacle of Midyat's architectural richness. Stone carvings, spacious courtyards, arched windows, and roof terraces transform these structures not only into living spaces but also into works of art.
3. STREETS AND DAILY LIFE
Description: Midyat's narrow streets, the sunlight reflected on the stone walls, and the life flowing through these streets reflect the spirit of the city. From the morning market to evening strolls, every moment tells a different story.
4. FILIGREE WORKSHOPS
Description: Midyat is known as the filigree capital of Anatolia. The shaping of delicate silver threads by skilled hands is the continuation of a centuries-old tradition to the present day. The concentration and skill of the masters working in the workshops are frozen moments in these photographs.
5. HANDWOVEN TEXTILES: COVERS AND SHAWLS
Description: Midyat's colorful covers and traditional shawls are living examples of the region's textile tradition. Each pattern tells a story, each color carries a meaning.
6. PEOPLE AND PORTRAITS
Description: Midyat's true treasure is the people who live in this land. From elderly craftsmen to young street vendors, every face reflects the multicultural fabric of this city.
7. SUNSETS AND PANORAMAS
Description: Midyat takes on a completely different beauty at sunset. As the yellow stone buildings turn golden, a magical atmosphere of twilight is created over the city.
8. NIGHT PHOTOS
Description: In the darkness of night, Midyat possesses a silent but impressive beauty. The shadows of streetlights cast on the stone walls, the warm light from the brightly lit windows, and the silhouettes stretching out beneath the stars capture the magic of the night.

about me

I am Aysegul Aytoren

I live in Antalya, one of Turkey's most beautiful cities. I'm also an avid cyclist. I discovered photography during my bike tours. I've been interested in it since childhood, and I was delighted with the advent of camera phones, but after a while, phones became insufficient, and I discovered the camera. I love photographing Antalya's nature, old houses, historical buildings, streets, and anything that has been left behind. I'd like to immortalize buildings that will likely be demolished in a few years. Past lives and experiences are my greatest passion. I'm grateful to Antalya, and of course, to my bike, for introducing me to photography.

I hope you enjoy my page and the photos I take. I'd love to embark on a journey of historical and natural beauty together.
