Adana: Taşın Belleğinde Saklı Katmanlar

Adana is one of those cities where stone, sun, and history intertwine. As you walk through these lands, you hear not only the present but also the voices of centuries. A sense of time, hidden in the streets, in the bay windows of shadowy old mansions, and in the silent stone walls, lingers.

At the heart of the city, Taşköprü (Stone Bridge), standing since Roman times, is not just a transportation route; it is a line of memory. Bathed in the sun along the river, this bridge carries Adana's past into the present. Each arch bears the traces of a different era, each stone the work of a different hand.

Walking among these traces, you touch the stone texture of the Old Grand Mosque. This structure, dating from the early Ottoman period, stands as a silent witness to Adana's religious and cultural history. The silence echoing in the mosque's courtyard whispers of the city's multilayered identity.

And then, a structure that dominates the city's skyline appears: the Sabancı Central Mosque. Rising in all the splendor of modern architecture, this structure represents Adana's new face. But the site where this imposing mosque stands was once an Armenian cemetery. This knowledge remains a truth etched in the stone's memory. It reminds us of this land's multicultural past, its silenced stories, and its long-forgotten pain.

Therefore, understanding Adana means not only gazing at its beauty but also feeling the weight of its memory. Behind every building, every street, every stone lies a different story. Some are magnificent, some are scarred; but all together, they form the soul of this city.

Walking the streets of Adana today, it's possible to hear both the voices of the past and the questions of the future.

Stone walls, old mansions, minarets, and bridges… They all tell us one thing:

"Don't forget."

about me

I am Aysegul Aytoren

I live in Antalya, one of Turkey's most beautiful cities. I'm also an avid cyclist. I discovered photography during my bike tours. I've been interested in it since childhood, and I was delighted with the advent of camera phones, but after a while, phones became insufficient, and I discovered the camera. I love photographing Antalya's nature, old houses, historical buildings, streets, and anything that has been left behind. I'd like to immortalize buildings that will likely be demolished in a few years. Past lives and experiences are my greatest passion. I'm grateful to Antalya, and of course, to my bike, for introducing me to photography.

I hope you enjoy my page and the photos I take. I'd love to embark on a journey of historical and natural beauty together.
