The Analog Soul: That Feeling Digital Can Never Capture

When I hold an analog camera in my hands, it feels like I'm stepping into a different dimension of time. Every time I advance the film with that lever, hearing that mechanical sound echoing in my ears, I know this is something beyond just taking photographs. This is a ritual, a moment to breathe, a process of contemplation.

Where Digital Can Never Reach

You know, in the digital world, people think everything can be "simulated." Thousands of filters, presets, "analog-looking" effects... But believe me, none of them, absolutely none can reach that authentic analog texture, that color depth, that unpredictable beauty. Analog photography has a soul. The way light is chemically recorded on film, how each frame is a surprise, that waiting, that excitement... No matter how advanced digital becomes, it can't capture this soul.

My Analog Journey

When I look at my collection, I feel proud: the instant joy my Polaroid gives me, the moments I've framed with my rangefinder cameras, the creative experiments I've tried with cameras that can expose twice on one frame... Canon QL19, Praktica, Yashica... Each one has a different character, a different language.

My lenses are my treasures: the legendary sharpness of Takumar, the tiny worlds opened by my Porst macro, the magical bokeh of Helios 44-2... Shooting with each one is a completely different experience.

Realities and Compromises

But here's the bridge between dreams and reality: the prices of 35mm films! The money leaving my pocket with each film purchase, the increasing costs with every developing and scanning process... Sometimes I get disappointed, honestly. I want to shoot analog, but my budget says "stop."

That's why I've turned to instant cameras like the Wide Evo and analog lenses. I try to capture that texture by mounting analog lenses on digital bodies. Yes, I get beautiful results. Yes, I'm somewhat satisfied.

But...

That Sound, That Feeling

Nothing can replace the sound of advancing the film lever on an analog camera. That "click" sound, that mechanical resistance... It feels like you're dancing with the machine. You carry the weight of every shutter release on your shoulders because you know: this frame is special, limited, irreversible.

A Hope, A Dream

The day will come, I know it. Economic situations will improve, maybe film prices will reach reasonable levels, maybe I'll start earning better. When that day comes, I'll shoot only with my analog cameras. I'll set digital aside and dive completely into that slow, thoughtful, magical world.

Until that day, I'll keep this love alive with my Wide Evo, my analog lenses, and occasionally those few rolls of film where I stretch my budget.

Because analog isn't just a technique - it's a passion, a way of life, a state of mind that digital can never understand.

Wherever the sound of film is heard, I am there...

about me

I am Aysegul Aytoren

I live in Antalya, one of Turkey's most beautiful cities. I'm also an avid cyclist. I discovered photography during my bike tours. I've been interested in it since childhood, and I was delighted with the advent of camera phones, but after a while, phones became insufficient, and I discovered the camera. I love photographing Antalya's nature, old houses, historical buildings, streets, and anything that has been left behind. I'd like to immortalize buildings that will likely be demolished in a few years. Past lives and experiences are my greatest passion. I'm grateful to Antalya, and of course, to my bike, for introducing me to photography.

I hope you enjoy my page and the photos I take. I'd love to embark on a journey of historical and natural beauty together.
